For over 50 years, Kountry Kraft Inc. has held steadfast to four guiding principles: craft the highest quality, custom product; deliver it on schedule; price it fairly; and be honest, genuine and friendly in all business endeavors.
These attributes are the foundation upon which this family owned and operated company has based its operation. From its humble start in the family garage of the Hurst family home to the modem manufacturing plant in operation in Newmanstown, PA., today, Kountry Kraft has remained dedicated to one premise: customer satisfaction.
Founded in 1959, Kountry Kraft began as a hobby when founder Elvin Hurst received a table saw as a gift from his wife Helen. Elvin soon realized that his love of woodworking could be garnered into a profitable business. Sixteen additions later, the former garage has expanded into a manufacturing facility, office and showroom that cover 96,000 square feet.
Although Elvin and Helen transferred the business to son Elvin Jr. and daughter Dolores Hurst-Funk in 2003. Elvin continues to work as consultant and assists in marketing and sales.
Kountry Kraft was awarded ESP (Environmental Stewardship Program) certification by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association. To achieve tills status, manufacturers must demonstrate compliance with stringent criteria.
It is a rigorous process that helps guarantee that everyone is doing their part to provide the consumer with sustainable cabinetry products.
Kountry Kraft’s operation has made a commitment to environmentally safe practices throughout its organization.
All of Kountry Kraft’s conversion varnishes and stains contain some of the lowest VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and HAPs (hazardous air pollutants) in the industry today.
Offering a water based finish, it is Kountry Kraft’s goal to eventually convert all of its finishes to water-borne finishes.
Kountry Kraft uses PureBond hardwood plywood with no added urea formaldehyde in their manufacturing and is proud to announce that over 95 percent of its hardwood sheet goods contain no added urea formaldehyde.
All glues have been converted to no added urea formaldehyde based materials. A state-of-the-art wood-burning furnace was installed to bum scrap wood that is used to heat the manufacturing facility while reducing waste.
Kountry Kraft implemented a distilling program to recycle finishing by-products and reduce waste. The distilling process removes the lacquer thinner, which, is then recycled and used to clean spray gnus, hoses and other finishing devices.
The company began a cardboard recycling program and has reduced cardboard waste into landfills by approximately one ton per month.
Electric usage practices were analyzed, and in conjunction with its electric supplier, Kountry Kraft has implemented changes to reduce electric usage.
