Animal Shelter Services at Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Brazoria County
“Pet over populations continues to be at a crisis point in this country,” said Jack Brown, executive director of the Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals.
The SPCA of Brazoria County works very hard to reduce the number of homeless animals through its low-cost spay/neuter program.
“We dream of a truly humane world where all animals have loving homes. Until that time, the doors of the shelter will remain open,” Brown said. The shelter accepts homeless animals and has an excellent record on adoptions and reclaims.
Many elderly pet owners can keep their companion pet due to the SPCA’s Ani-Meals Program which uses donated dog food, cat food and cat litter.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has an excellent board of directors made up of community leaders who appointed Brown to head up the animal shelter efforts. Southern Brazoria County Animal Shelter staff includes Brown, off site and volunteer coordinator Michele Allison and adoption and lobby coordinator Joleen Skipper.
The shelter has nine partner veterinarians that participate in the spay/neuter and wellness programs.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals played a key role in making July, Adopt a Shelter Animal Month in Brazoria County, Brown said. The group also runs Shelter Aid and Lemonade for area youth.
The SPCA of Brazoria County belongs to the Brazosport Area and Greater Angleton chambers of commerce.
The Southern Brazoria County Animal Shelter is located at 141 Canna Lane in Lake Jackson.
