Italian Greyhound Club of America Rescue: Group tries to keep pace with rise in needy greyhounds

The IGCA Rescue Foundation is a (501(c)3 in good standing. Italian Greyhound Club of America Rescue is a club-sponsored re-homing service for Italian greyhounds that have been abandoned at animal shelters, taken from abusive homes or surrendered by their owners.

IGCA Rescue volunteers provide dogs with in-home foster care, where a dog’s health and temperament are evaluated. All dogs are given a basic veterinary exam, are neutered or spayed and are given dental care. Vaccinations are updated if needed.

Prospective adopters are required to fill out an application and go through an interview process and home evaluation. At the time of placement, the adopter is required to sign an adoption contract and make a donation to the Italian Greyhound Rescue Fund so that medical care can be provided for future rescue dogs.

The number of Italian greyhounds coming into the rescue is on the rise: more than 800 dogs nationwide each year. Homes with responsible, loving people are always needed.
