Moore’s Home Furnishings: Best Place to Buy Furniture

Local buyers have several choices for home furnishings in Kerrville, as well as an hour away in San Antonio. Moore’s attractive displays in its 71,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse facility at Junction Highway and Harper Road rate right up there with any large-chain retailer, but Moore’s General Manager John Dacy believes it’s what the customer experiences after leaving the store that makes Moore’s successful.

Dacy said. “It’s selling at the right price, giving them what they want and service after the sale. Being a relatively small town like Kerrville, you rely on repeat business. We’ve had generations come in and buy furniture, and it’s important we keep them coming in and buying furniture.”

An experienced sales staff is ready to help a customer find what he or she is looking for when they enter Moore’s, and with its on-site warehouse, local customers generally receive delivery within a couple of days, depending on the items purchased.

To Dacy, the customer’s viewpoint after leaving the store is just as important. Customers receive a survey upon delivery of their purchase, as well as a follow-up call from a store representative.

“If there’s any concerns at that point, we address them immediately,” Dacy said. “The most important thing to our owner (Bill Johnston) is customer satisfaction after the sale. If you want to lose a customer, stop contact after they go out the door. You’ll never see them again.

“Our longevity speaks for itself,” Dacy added of a business that opened on the second floor of the Moore’s Lumber Yard building in Ingram in the 1950s and moved to its current location in Kerrvile in the early 1970s. “Many have come and gone, and it says something that we’ve stayed in business.

“They want to see a good selection, quality furniture and feel comfortable about what they’re purchasing. I don’t think there’s any store in San Antonio that has anything on us. We have people come out of San Antonio to buy from us.

“Our sales staff has been here a long time. We don’t have turnover. We hardly have sales jobs open. They know so many people in town. The customers have worked with that sales person for years and come back. They build a relationship with their customers.”

Inventory doesn’t hurt, either. Bedroom, living room, recreation room, dining room or bathroom, Moore’s has it, in styles that meet any taste, as well as price range.

“They may come in looking for a lamp and leave with a whole bedroom,” said Sheryl Butler, Moore’s store manager and buyer. “If you walk around our store, it’s the something for everyone store. We have varieties, different styles. We have from the refined to the rustic, a variety of price points from Ashley to Thomasville.”

Keeping an eye on the local area also is a key to success, Butler said.

“We get people from Dallas and Houston moving here, and they want a sophisticated look, but the feel of the Hill Country,” Butler said. “We offer a sophisticated, Hill Country look in furniture.”

Be it a recliner for dad, a dining room set for mom or bunk beds for the kids, Moore’s strives to deliver what the customer wants and to make sure the customer is comfortable with what they buy.

“We are pleased and honored to have won the Reader’s Choice award,” Dacy said. “Customer service is just as important. You have to stand by what you sell.”
