Rochester Dance Company was started in 2006 as a means of expanding the opportunities for dance students to perform in professional-quality productions. RDC strives to provide training for students with a passion for dance. The company's first production was The Nutcracker, at Mayo Civic Center. Each season begins in August and continues through May. Auditions are held each spring to select company members for the following season. Dancers with at least two years of ballet training can audition.

The 223-seat Jon Hassler Theater in Plainview enjoys a location in the heart of southeast Minnesota's beautiful Greenwood Prairie, and will celebrate its 10th season in 2009. The Theater is a not-for-profit devoted to keeping the arts alive in a small, rural community. It’s named for the famed Minnesota novelist Jon Hassler, who spent his middle and high school years in Plainview in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Hassler's novel Grand Opening is based on his Plainview experience. The Theater has staged productions of Hassler's works, as well as those of other artists. Its season runs from June through December.
